Diverse Learners Speech Therapy Services is looking for both a Psychologist and an Occupational Therapist with strong passions and desires to work with families looking specifically for neurodiversity affirming services. Services may be in-home in your own geographical area and/or virtual. The positions would start out very part-time (2-4 clients) with opportunity for growth to part time

 

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of 2 years experience working directly with neurodivergent children and their families (we are unable to support student placements or new clinicians at this time). 

  • Live in the Peel Region,York Regions and feel comfortable travelling within these areas or within Ontario (virtually).

  • Feel confident working independently and managing their own schedule, with the ability to consult and collaborate with like-minded, neurodiversity affirming therapists.

  • Have experience or interest servicing school-age children and those with minimal or unique spoken language.

  • Share our passion for neurodiversity-affirming services and a basic understanding of the Social Model of Disability.

  • Have experience and passion for supporting autistic and ADHD children, with a strong desire for delivering child-led services.

  • Have a working understanding of Sensory Processing Disorder, Interoception and supporting families with building self-care skills (toileting, dressing, feeding) as well as building a sensory-friendly home environment.

  • Desire the independence and flexibility of working from home (virtual services and charting) and/or travelling to client homes near you to deliver in-home services (access to own car is essential in this case).

  • Have a working understanding of PDA and, when supporting families with behavioural concerns, takes a whole-child, developmental approach (without use of reinforcement and rewards systems). The clinician would work with the family and team (if applicable) to determine the possible root causes of behaviours and develop an individualized set of strategies accordingly.

  • Have at least a basic understanding of IEPs to support families with advocacy around IEP goals for school.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Assessment, Treatment and Consultation to children using both informal and formal measures. 

  • May possibly provide caregiver-focused Consultation and Counselling.

  • Be able to manage own client scheduling.

  • Be able to refer patients to other allied health professionals or medical practitioners when necessary.

  • Collaborate with school teams for the purpose of informing IEP goals and recommendations when necessary. 

  • Optionally collaborate within the Diverse Learners team to provide coordinated care.
